The Great Pattern Mix-Up

Shirt and skirt: Target
Tank top: Old Navy
Shoes: Rack Room
All jewelry: Inherited from grandmother

Today I got over my case of the Mondays and decided to experiment with mixing patterns a little. I have shied away from doing this in the past because, along with non-matchy-matchy colors, multiple patterns are something I've been taught to avoid. You can't really tell, but the shirt is gray and white striped, and the skirt's pattern is obvious. I think this works because the colors are similar and the shirt's pattern is more subtle. Two bold patterns probably would have been too much, but I think one subtle pattern with one bold is okay.

Also, I've decided to change up my hair a little. I've had the same short haircut for about four years, and I've loved it, but I feel like it's time for something new. When I pulled my hair back today, I realized that the longest layers are about chin-length, so I think I'm going to grow the rest of my hair to about the same length and then maybe an inch or two longer overall. I also think I want bangs, which I haven't had since sixth grade. I'm a little nervous, because I've gotten very used to looking the way I do. But I think it will be a good change, and hopefully the in-between stage, the hands-down worst part of attempting a longer hairstyle, won't be too bad.

Anyway, it's just hair. There's a revolution in Libya. Hair isn't, in the end, that big a deal.

  3. Love the skirt! So much fun. The red shoes are perfect with it, too :)

  4. Such a wonderful (and easy, and not scary) way to play with pattern and texture! I love monochromatic looks, especially ones that play with preconceptions. This is awesome! And I still love those red flats...

  5. Aw, thanks ladies! I think I need some new red flats though, BiblioMOMia - these are literally falling apart (and I mean "literally" literally, not the figurative way most people use it!).
