Feats of Strength (and Moments of Weakness)

T-Shirt: Boys' section at Target
Blazer: Gap
Jeans: Levi's 545s
Shoes: Rack Room
Necklace and bracelets: Bead for Life

This morning I had a cute short-sleeved t-shirt on under my blazer, until I stepped out the front door and realized it was much chillier and wetter than I thought it would be. I ran back inside, gave myself five minutes to pick out something else, and in a panic ended up putting on this three-quarter-sleeved baseball t-shirt from the boys' section at Target. I love this shirt, but it is definitely not dressy, so I was counting on the power of the blazer to dress it up enough for a casual Friday. I'm still not sure if it worked, but for a decision made under duress, I don't think it's too bad. Making it halfway decent for work was certainly a feat of strength for my blazer.

About the glasses. I usually wear contacts during the day and glasses at home in the evening. This should mean that I don't need to buy expensive glasses, but the last time I went to the optometrist, I ended up waaaaay overspending on these glasses in a moment of weakness. I don't know what happened. My eyes were dilated so I couldn't see very well, which somehow affected my logical thought processes? I don't know. When I got home and realized what I'd done, I freaked out and offered to take them back, but Cary convinced me to keep them. So now I wear them to work from time to time because I feel obligated to get my money's worth out of them.

So, reader(s), do you have anything like my glasses in your wardrobe? Did you spend too much on something that you now feel obligated to wear? Feel free to shout your answers on out!

Edit: I submitted this look to Everybody Everywear for Blazer Day!

  1. Yes, the blazer totally dresses it up. I would not have known it was a little boy's shirt if you hadn't said anything!

  2. This is perfect academic style, and the blazer absolutely makes it dressy enough for campus. I love your beads and your red flats, and I'm so glad I found another academic on EBEW today!

I just checked out both your blogs, and y'all are adorable. BiblioMOMia, looks like we're both academics and both Southerners too. Thanks for reading, both of you!

  4. Can't go wrong with a classic, black blazer! I like glasses - so much so, that I wear fakes sometimes. It's true, I swear!

  5. If only I only needed fake glasses! I've had glasses or contacts for almost 20 years. Totally blind as a bat.

  7. Thanks! The blazer is made of a softer cotton too, not stiff blazer material, so it's super comfy.
